REDLINE TRI CLUB APPOINTS NEW HEAD COACH

Redline Tri Club is proud to announce the appointment of their new Head Coach, Karen Short . 

Karen is an Accredited Triathlon and Swim Coach, Level 2 Triathlon Performance Coach (completed June 2016) and 3 x Hawaii Ironman Championships finisher – 2003, 2011 and 2013.

Karen has been involved in endurance sport as a competitor and Coach for over 20 years as an Age Group Champion Triathlete.

During this time she has trained under several triathlon and running coaches.  She understands the pressures of ‘life’, ‘work / life balance’ and ‘time management’.  As she currently still teaches as a Senior Teacher in High Schools, manages to coach, train and race in numerous triathlons culminating

in three finishes at Ironman World Championships, Kona Hawaii, 2003, 2011 and 2013.

Former Redline Tri Club Head Coach, Iain Sherrin, who is now stepping into the role of Club President says that he “is very pleased with Karen’s appointment and the qualifications she brings to Redline Tri Club”.  He further states that he is “looking  forward to growing and developing the Club as the centre of triathlon excellence on Brisbane’s South Side.   Our Committee is proud to support Karen’s enthusiasm and vision to provide quality coaching for all members from the Kids through to all age groups and families”. “We are a family based club and we love to have a lot of fun and race hard at the same time” Sherrin said.

Karen is also Head Coach of her own South Brisbane based Triathlon Group, Morgain Tri Coaching, which she has successfully managed for the previous three years. She has coached many athletes to podium finishes and for world championship races from Sprint, Duathlon, Olympic, 70.3 and Ironman distance.

Redline Tri Club has also partnered with V1 Cyclery , Ontic Health & Fitness, and Ontrack Running.  Iain Sherrin is sure that “the ‘Big Four’ , led by like-minded individuals,  will certainly provide a host of professional sports and training  services and environments for RTC members including families. ” 

V1 Cyclery’s riding specialists and Coaches will work with Karen to develop a range of cycling sessions from beginner to Ironman for the Club’s main program.

Ontic Health and Fitness is enthusiastic to provide RTC state of the art facilities in Altitude training, Strength and Conditioning, Watt bike training, Pilates and Yoga classes for triathletes, and their very own Sport Exercise physiologist for specialized Strength, Conditioning and Rehab.

Ontrack Running led byprofessional run coach Ben Norton provides training sessions and coaching for both juniors and adults, with many junior runners already at State and National level. Ben comments that he “welcomes Karen’s edition to RTC for many of his runners express an interest in cross training in triathlon”. 

Karen has attended Junior Development Coaching Workshops with both State and National Development Squads in Australia.  She has a personal interest, and a strong, support network of Junior Development Coaches across Queensland to assist her to bring into fruition RTC’s very own JDS.

Karen also aims to develop Coaches through mentoring and support, including developing and supervising new Coaches. The addition of like-minded Coaches will further enhance the growth and participation of members of RTC.
